Webb Telescope Captures Cosmic Question Mark in Deep Space

Astronomers often ponder the mysteries of the universe, and now it seems the universe has a question of its own. The James Webb Space Telescope recently captured an intriguing image in deep space, featuring what looks like a giant question mark, earning it the nickname "Question Mark Pair."

This celestial phenomenon is actually an optical illusion caused by gravitational lensing—a process where the gravitational field of a massive object bends the light from a more distant object. The "question mark" is formed by a pair of galaxies that appear to be in multiple locations at once due to this space-bending effect. The standout in the image is a red, dusty galaxy that is seen in five different spots, creating the loop that forms the top of the question mark. Nearby, a white spiral galaxy adds to the captivating cosmic display.

The image, released on Wednesday, serves as a fascinating reminder of the strange and unexpected visuals that await astronomers when exploring the cosmos with the powerful James Webb Space Telescope.
